Pineapple Blossom: (Ananas comosus) named after the fruit?s similarity to a pine cone, the pineapple is the edible member of the Bromeliaceae family. It is a long process to grow a pineapple fruit. The center stem puts forth a head of purple flowers, each with a single bract. Individual fruits develop from the flowers, join together to form the cone shaped fleshy fruit we recognize as the pineapple.

High in the mountainous temperate Rainforest of Trinidad is the Asa Wright Nature Centre. Here a visitor can see the fauna and flora of the Rainforest up close and enjoy tea on the long wooden veranda of the age-old Victorian mansion. For one week in January, 2007, Christine attended a workshop where she had the opportunity to study the plants and tropical birds of the temperate Rainforest. The renderings that resulted from that experience can be viewed here and captured within the artist's book: Come With Me to the Rainforest of Trinidad.
